SAFETY PLAN
In the event of extreme weather conditions causing the IPMA to issue red or orange or, in certain circumstances, yellow extreme weather warnings (extreme wind and/or rain and/or temperature), the event will be cancelled. Save in exceptional circumstances, the cancellation will be announced at least 24 hours in advance on our website. In the event of cancellation, whenever possible, the event will be rescheduled for a subsequent date, without prejudice to possibly repaying competitors any sums owed in line with the type of cancellation (full or partial).
A survey of the main natural and human risks relevant to the areas used has been performed and this survey has been taken into account in the location of control points. However, in exceptional circumstances, there may be last-minute changes to take into account, for instance, heavy rain in the preceding days or forecast heavy rain or extreme temperatures during the courses.
If justified, special safety instructions will be published on the Bulletins and on the event’s website, being also affixed near the Event Centre. In this event, these instructions shall be mandatory and any failure to comply with them will entail immediate disqualification.
There will be an ambulance close to the Finish in Terena (Saturday), as well as an emergency team on stand-by for immediate action, if necessary. This team will be composed of three members of the technical team with recognised experience in orienteering and physical strength. On Sunday, the course takes place in an urban zone, with nearby first-aid facilities.
SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ACCOUNTABILITY
The event will be organised in line with social and environmental accountability principles. Accordingly, most purchases will be made locally and the direct contact between the competitors and local operators, without intermediaries, is encouraged.
The organisation elected to resort to local not-for-profit organisations for the meals and hard floors. Fees paid by competitors revert entirely to these not-for-profit organisations.
Prizes and souvenirs will respect environmental criteria (utility and re-usability).
The use of single-use materials will be kept to a strict minimum. Waste selective collection facilities will be provided.
Clube da Natureza de Alvito upholds principles and values of respect for the dignity and fair and equitable treatment of all competitors, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.
